What Does the Subaru Certified Program Inspection Cover?

May 7th, 2025 by

To ensure only the best Subaru vehicles receive the stamp of approval in the certification process, each must undergo and pass a 152-point inspection. These assessments are performed by factory-trained technicians, and are the reason why 97 percent of Subaru cars sold in the last decade are still operating on roadways today. Mechanics

The most prized assets of any vehicle are at its core, and that’s why our service specialists place a strong emphasis on the systems beneath the hood. Firstly, we’ll perform a visual inspection of the engine to check how it cranks, idles, accelerates, and if there are any unusual sounds emanating from it. Once we’re done, we’ll shift our attention to the transmission and clutch to ensure the gearbox properly cycles through gear ratios. While we’re there, we’ll hook up the battery to our digital multimeter to measure the voltage, amps, and resistance coming from the part. If everything looks shipshape, the examination is completed by viewing the radiator, air filter, drive belt tension, and fluid levels.

Undercarriage

When a pre-owned Subaru is brought to our location, the undercarriage typically bears the brunt of the damage. After all, these components are constantly exposed to the elements, which plays a major role in their degradation. To verify that the wheels are properly aligned, our Service Department places the car on a lift to scan the suspension. While we’re there, we measure the tread depths of each tire to validate their traction capabilities. Arguably most important, the brake pads are there to ensure you’re always able to come to a safe halt. If they have worn past their window of contention, they’ll be swapped for a fresh set. Then, the calipers, rotors, and brake lines will be evaluated. Lastly, if the struts, axles, and exhaust system are exhibiting excessive wear, the problem will be resolved before the vehicle receives the certification.

Exterior

Presentation is key, and the manufacturers at Subaru made sure that the autobody is part of the 152-point inspection. Firstly, the car’s outer shell must be free of scratches, dents, and rust to ensure the vehicle showcases a blend of form and function. Our team will also take a peek at the headlights, taillights, fog lamps, and Daytime Running Lights, and if any bulb is burnt out, it is immediately replaced. Afterwards, the glass is checked for chips, since they can spiderweb in the future and force customers to replace the full panel of glass. If the vehicle has heated mirrors, we take a look at the coils, and we’ll also swap out the wiper blades to help you handle inclement weather confidently. Of course, these are just a few of the procedures that take place, so if you’d like to learn more about the rest, contact our team!
